On the 18th of the said month (March), I took the sun and found 49°½, it had a declination of 2° 55', and the latitude came to 37° 35', and whilst taking the sun we saw a very high island, and we went towards it to anchor, but could not, and we lowered the sails and lay to until next day, and the wind was westerly, and we changed tack to the north under mainsails.
