On the 8th of the said month I did not take the sun, but, according to the run we had, we thought we were ahead of the Cape, and on this day we saw land, and the coast runs N.E. to S.W. and a quarter E.W. and so we saw that we were behind the Cape a matter of 160 degrees [longitud W. 160º + 46º 30’ = 206º 30’ , 206º 30’ – 180º = 26º 30’ Greenwich E. approx.], and opposite the river Del Infante [the Great Fish River], at a distance of eight leagues from it, and this day we were lying to with winds from the W. and W.N.W, and it was Thursday.
