On the 15th, I took the Sun at 76° 15’, it had a declination of 23° 31’, giving an altitude of 9° 46’ and the shoals are E.N.E – W.S.W., and we sounded at night and found 23 fathoms, and thus we spent the whole night sounding till the morning when we were in their waters [Portuguese waters. They are south of the Cape Verde Islands] and the day was Sunday.
