On the 27th, I took the Sun at 79° 1⁄4, it had a declination of 22° 4/5, giving an altitude of 12° 3’. I am level with the Casamance River [Gambia] and our course was N.W., N.N.W. and N, but the water carried us eastwards, and on this day, I sounded and found 30 fathoms, the conditions were good and the day was Friday.
