On the first day of the month of July, I did not take the Sun, but we sailed N.N.E. 10 leagues the Cape is 12 leagues off N.W.1/4N. of me, with the nearest land at 7 leagues. On this day, we asked the crew whether we should call into the Cape Verde Islands or set our course for terra firma [the continent] to take on supplies, and it was thus decided by vote to go to the islands, the day was Tuesday.
